“Space-aged” Wine

Chilean Ian Hutcheon has given a whole new meaning to aging wine. As a passionate astronomer and winemaker, Hutcheon thought his Cabernet Sauvignon could use a little “life,” so he decided to age it in the barrel with a meteorite–4.5 billion years old–for one year. The meteorite landed in Chile’s Atacama dessert 6,000 years ago and by including it in the winemaking process, Hutcheon says it will “give everybody the opportunity to touch something from space.” We’ll take a glass of that.

Beer, Biscuits and Pickles

Jacob’s Pickles, a pub that focuses on beer, biscuits and pickles, recently opened on the Upper West Side. They pickle everything from asparagus to margaritas, but the fact that there is root beer on tap and aged-cheddar cheeseburgers as well, really sold us. Can’t wait to check this one out.

No Pants Subway Ride

Don’t be alarmed this Sunday if someone strolls onto your subway car wearing no pants. This year will mark Improv Everywhere’s 11th Annual No Pants Subway Ride. Everyone is invited to participate. There are only two rules: you have to be willing to take your pants off in public, and you have to be able to keep a straight face about it.

Sure–jobs have been lost by unfortunate Facebook blunders, but now a misstep on popular social media sites could affect your credit. Learnvest reports that small banks–and it’s slowly catching on to the larger ones–are using an algorithm to determine applicants’ creditworthiness based on their social media networks. Protected information is not safe–they are requiring you to share your login information for full access. Bottom line? Think twice about uploading those pictures from that birthday party on Friday night.

1931 was a bad year for beer. We spotted this photo on Gothamist, showing two dozen beer kegs being smashed during prohibition and teared up a little. However, we’re optimistic that in 2012, the only beer being smashed will be on the Jersey Shore. We might tear up a little then as well, but for an entirely different reason…
